They both use hero's from Propps theory this is used on the band members to highlight their importance in the music videos and to make sure the viewers know where the focus should be

Little ix uses a clear linear narrative storyline with a clear begging, middle and an end

There are uses of Propp theory when there is a villains and heroes

wide shots which focus on the bands and gets all of them in the frame to signify that they are the main characters. Close up of each individual member of the bands to get a wider understanding of the character.

They use an increased amount wide shots to help set the scene and to improve the story line by showing more of the background.

They use more close ups of the band and demi Lovato, so the audience have opportunities to see they favourite member or artist in the video.

Fast editing in both videos- this makes I fun and exciting this compliments the pop style and makes it fitting for the band brand

They use a cut to show contrast of each character and what they are like in class by first starting with an extreme wide shot then zoom in just to a wide shot. And shows the juxtaposition of the nerdy kids and the popular kids.

Using match on action we can see the juxtaposition with the girl’s views of the boys and to look ‘cool’ to the boy's view on the girls to show how they feel about each other and to impress them.

Mise-en-scène e.g., use of setting/location, lighting, costume, performance

Any links to genre?

They use bright lighting and colours this makes it appeal to their younger fanbase and makes it more uplifting and fun to watch

Using bright and stereotypical costumes of a nerd and popular teens it helps the audience imagen the story and believe in magic to make the narrative come to life.

Using leather jackets for the boys it makes them seem cool to impress the girls with their charm. Additionally, the girls wear short shorts and their bikini tops to make them seem more attractive to the band to get their attention.

Explain one way that music videos use media language to differ from one another. Refer to one example of contrasting language in two media videos you have studied to support your answer?

'Black magic' and 'Somebody to you' contrast each-other a lot. one way that music videos use media language is through their costume in 'black magic' the band wear bright colours to over exaggerate  the narrative in this magical world to make it seem more on theme with the story this will help an active audience member believe the story as it seems more realistic for the narrative. On the other hand 'Somebody to you' uses costume to make them seem more down to earth and cool as they are seen wearing ordinary shorts and t-shirts which anyone would wear as a result the audience will feel that they're more relatable and aren't "too famous" to be like their audience.

'Black Magic' and 'Somebody to you' contrasts each-other a-lot one way the music videos use media language is through their camera and editing . In 'Somebody to you' through camera we can see that each band member have been given an equal amount f screen time as it's a band the editor has done this so that the audiences can have a single moment with their favourite band members. In 'Black Magic' they use an increased amount of wide shots to help set the scene and to improve the story line by showing more of the background so that the audience can feel as though they are in a surreal world with magic and the audience can believe.
